What on Earth is Swings and Roundabouts?

Swings and Roundabouts was started in Spring 2009 by Eleanor and her 2.5 year old boy, let's call him 'A' who went on a mission to find the best playgrounds around Victoria BC. Check in to see their progress. NOTE: We have been changing functionality of the site and currently all of the posts are not consistent- I'm working on it......bear with me....

  1. Nice blog! Funny that you should call it "swings and roundabouts" because that's exactly what you won't find in many playgrounds. Well - little, safe swings are still available in some public parks (but not at schools). Certainly no roundabouts.

I see you've done a couple of school playgrounds in Sooke. Check out the Doncaster Elementary School playgrounds as well. They are great for school-age kids, though "A" might not be ready for the best piece of equipment, a blue structure that goes around like a roundabout, but has safer design features.

  2. Thanks for the comments. The name actually is two-fold: Primarily it came from the saying, "It's all Swings and Roundabouts" (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/swings_and_roundabouts) and secondly, I like roundabouts except that after I'd been doing this for a while I found out that North Americans call them Merry-go-rounds so that one backfired (I'm English).

  3. Great site! You should connect with Kaboom.org - their "find a playspace" map would fit perfectly with what you're doing!
Thanks for being a great resource.

  4. When I first started visiting parks with my son I became frustrated at the lack of park information online. I like to check things out and plan ahead. I said to my partner that I really wish Victoria had a site devoted to its children's playplaces. A few months late I heard about your site. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you. Now if only I could find out if there are any public outdoor swimming pools in Victoria.....

  6. There is some actual round abouts in some parks in Courtenay! I have seen a couple actually, 2 or 3 around the "Saratoga" area, not exatly there but I was leaving the beach and saw them coming in the back way to Courtenay. There is a good one in Cumberland aswell, swings, water-park, roundabout etc.
